Let me tell you a little bit about how I became a therapist and coach.
After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology, I went on a different route and ended up spending about 10 years in first retail, and then in Human Resources (both in the corporate and university world).
Why? Because when I graduated college, I didn’t feel ‘ready’ to deep dive into the world of therapy. Little did I know, it was only my fears and self doubt that were holding me back. If only I had a coach back then...
Fast forward to 2021, about a decade after graduating, I was feeling unfulfilled in my career and lifestyle, and wondered if maybe now was finally the time.
My interest in the human psyche never went away, and going through my own evolution and healing processes made me realize more and more that I want to be part of the change in how we treat our minds, bodies, and lives.
We all deal with personal trauma, whether it’s deeply aching and constantly there, or whether it’s micro-trauma that affects you without you even knowing. We all deal with blockages like low self-esteem, fear of change, anxiety and so on. We all have to face life events that throw us off-guard, hurt us, change us, or even change our lives completely.
The challenges we face end up impacting us in ways we are often not even aware of.
For me, my lack of purpose and excitement was reflected in an unhealthy eating pattern (eating your feelings, anyone..?). This resulted in a toxic relationship with my weight and body that took me years and years to heal.
Sure, at some point I managed to change my eating, exercise and lose weight, but these were simply Band-Aids for my symptoms. I spent years on changing my habits, successfully, but it wasn't until I got to the core of my issues that I could truly start healing and mending my relationship with myself.
I want to save you that valuable time your problems take away from your life, because this is time you could be enjoying and living to the fullest. You're not supposed to spend years of your life hiding away, avoiding dealing with your feelings, or feeling numb, and missing out on all that you truly want for yourself.
If often takes an outside perspective to figure out what those things are that we are hiding from, that are impacting our lives under the surface. We can all benefit from the awareness that therapy and coaching bring, and we could all use a little help in dealing with what life throws at us.
This stuff ain't easy, folks...
In my vision, sometimes therapy is in place, where you revisit the past in order to learn from it, and other times it’s the future-based approach of coaching that might help you most.
There is no “one size fits all” in therapy or coaching, and I want to be able to offer the best of both, depending on what you need in that moment.
So, last year I decided to broaden my horizon and learn about coaching, like I learned about psychology and psychotherapy in the past. I've been working with some of the best coaches out there, and it's been an incredibly interesting road. I have discovered new ways of handling things, looking at things, and new ways of helping others.
And that right there is my very simple goal: to help people, whether it's with coaching techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, or even simply by lending a listening ear and being there.
So maybe you feel ‘fine’, but like you are simply not getting most out of life. Maybe you feel like you could some help healing from your past or childhood. Maybe you feel stuck in the life you currently have. Maybe you feel like you can’t seem to break free from what has defined you in the past. Maybe you have no idea on how to create a different future.
